Carnival
by Irene Clare Garner
Media: mixed media (clay, mosaic, wire)
The aim was to produce a piece of work with all the vitality, vibrancy and gaiety of carnival.
The colours were chosen as adjacent colours - red, orange, yellow, with the purples complimentary to the yellow, and the pink a pale tone of red, relating well to the purple (being on the purple side of pink).
The piece should by nature be striking, and reflect my skills in mosaics, in following a line, and fitting pieces in a terse manner.
The overall form and shape of forms was taken from the work with cacti. The ideas, although extended and developed, stem from these beginnings of spines and whorls. It has been my intention at all stages to produce a ‘clean’ piece of work.
