Cactus Slice
by Kathryn Johnstone
Media: Free machine embroidery on water soluble fabric, silk metal organza with pintucks, wireform armature, satin, felt.
I was inspired by the machine embroidery technique as a method of creating my own fabric to work with. I chose realistic cactus colours, and tried to emulate the true textures found on the cacti.
With regards to the shape, I focused on the sansevieria (mother-in-law’s tongue).
