Media: paperclay decorated with Lithium glaze, bodystains, and copper oxide
My head-piece was inspired by several cacti, these were mainly the succulent varieties. I was particularly attracted to their plump, fleshy leaves and tried to replicate this by inflating textured ‘pillows’ of clay. I also liked how the leaves were organised, at first glance seeming haphazard but on closer inspection cleverly arranged and meticulously proportioned. The photos which my group took and used as a starting point made me feel like an insect on walkabout taking in the sights - ruffled edges, skin textured surfaces, a symphony of the colour green.
Something I’ve particularly enjoyed about working with my group on this project, is the opportunity it has given us to share and use creative and artistic language to have a meeting of minds and experiences and an opportunity to operate on an equal level.
