Transformations (2000)

Hatworks, the UK’s only museum dedicated to the hatting industry, extended an invitation to UK-based artists to submit designs of hand-made hats for selection for its inaugural exhibition in April 2000.

Start textiles department submitted six hats which were all selected.

Titled Transformations, the series of hats was about the way that we transform ourselves in different situations.

Every hat had a veil, to reveal or conceal, and the themes of the six designs reflected interest in myths, symbols and metaphors.
