A Drawing from Memory exercise
Alfred Wallis drew and painted from memory, with remarkably accurate results. This is much harder than it seems.
We tend not to commit our surroundings to memory in the type of detail demanded by a drawing exercise. We remember only what is important or interesting rather than every scrap of information. The students found this out for themselves, through the ‘Drawing from Memory’ exercise, illustrated here.
“What a difficult exercise. I had no idea drawing from memory would be so challenging.”
