Inspiring Student Placement

Occupational Therapy student Alyson Roberts has spent the last few weeks on placement at Start as part of her training course.
Start offers occasional OT placements for students, and we have a particularly close relationship with Salford University.
During her placement, Alyson had the chance to sit in on sessions and observe the way that creative activity is used here to stimulate recovery from serious mental health difficulties. Alyson also worked closely with Start OT Juliette Angus on supportive interventions and treatments, finding the whole process a fascinating experience.
Alyson said: "Start is an inspiring, stimulating environment for an Occupational Therapy student to have a placement. It has given me the opportunity to discover my strengths and develop new skills which I intend to practice during my work an as OT assistant and on future placements.
"The professional team of Start tutors and Occupational Therapist have all contributed to help me consolidate my learning and develop these skills. Working with the service users has been a joy and has also motivated me to take up new creative interests and definitely consider a future career in mental health services."
