The student that made this bowl is colour blind, so is very attracted to black/white colour surfaces. The technique used is called ‘naked raku’ and involves applying a glaze that doesn’t actually stick fast to the pots’ surface during firing. Later, on cooling, the glaze is picked off and reveals the spectacular smoked crazing.
