Textiles GalleryTitle : Devoré Panel | Artist : Angela Foley
This panel, inspired by rockpools, uses the specialist process of ‘Devoré’ to etch portions of velvet pile away, whilst leaving the rest of the velvet surface undisturbed. The artist dyed the velvet by hand to create blue pile and red background. She then embellished the surface with beads and stitch, and sculpted the velvet into a 3D form by use of wire.
The project “Better Than Chocolate” which this piece comes from taught Start Students how to create original designs based on the patterns and forms observed in photographs of rockpools.
Visiting artist Gemma Lacey worked with Start Artist Wendy Teall to lead this project.
